Can a drone's sensor be modified directly for NDVI?

Yes, in fact, that's the most common use. We work modifying drones with integrated cameras (like the DJI series) and also portable action cameras like GoPros for agricultural mapping.

Is the modification process irreversible?

No. We safely store your original Low Pass Filter glass. The 100% process is reversible, so you can send the unit back to us to have it restored to its factory condition at any time (for example, if you want to resell it).

Do I have to send the whole drone or just the camera?

You have complete flexibility. You can pack and send us your entire drone for your convenience, or, if you know how and prefer to disassemble the payload/gimbal, send us only the camera module.

Performing a commercial modification to a drone or camera requires expert hands compared to the original mechanized assembly.

Dual-Band Multispectral Filter: We don't simply empty your camera's sensor. We remove and safeguard the original hot mirror (which blocks the necessary light) and custom-make our special analysis filter, which is controlled-transmission. This glass allows simultaneous access to photons. Blue, Green and Near Infrared (NIR) to enable the subsequent algorithm to extract the mathematics (NDVI = (NIR - Visible) / (NIR + Visible)).

Conservative Focus Calibration: Modifying the front optical thickness of the sensor means that a drone in flight could blur the orthophotos. We performed measurements and recalibrations of the LPF block using advanced instrumentation to certify our work on test benches before final shipment.

Can a complete drone be modified, or just the modules? We offer complete flexibility. You can pack the entire unit and send it to us. Or, if you have assembly experience, you can simply remove the payload or articulated head with the camera and send us just that to optimize shipping costs.

Is the process destructive or irreversible? Not at all. We keep your retainers and, of course, your original lens (Low Pass Filter), which we'll include with the shipment. If you later wish to resell your drone on the civilian market or use it again for wedding videography, you can repeat the lab procedure with us, and we'll return the camera to its factory-fresh condition, completely undamaged.

DST modifies the camera, but who processes the maps? At DST, we act as hardware partners: we deliver the perfect and precise physical equipment. The pre-programmed orthomosaic flight, as well as the uploading of color mapping and data interpretation to NDVI remote sensing software (such as Pix4d or DroneDeploy), is the responsibility of the client's team or agronomists.
