All DSLR cameras incorporate image sensors that are sensitive to infrared light. Manufacturers install an IR-cut filter in front of the image sensor to maintain the same visible light spectrum as the human eye. Unfortunately these filters also attenuate the Alpha Hydrogen light, which is very important for capturing h-alpha emission nebulae in astronomical photography.
