Composing is undoubtedly one of the tasks that every photographer has to deal with in order to get good pictures. We know that learning the basic rules of composition is a must for every good photographer. But in addition to the basic rules there are tricks that will help us a lot in practice.

  1. Breaking the rules

Once we have internalised the rules, learning to break them is basic to being able to experiment, and to find new and interesting images. The example above breaks the rule of a completely horizontal horizon, to achieve this attractive result.

  1. Leave spaces for corrections

spaces

It is common when editing and correcting photographs to crop them. Either to improve the framing or to eliminate certain parts that are not correct. If we leave margins we will avoid eliminating important parts of the compositions, having space to be able to work with ease.

  1. Frees the screen of unnecessary information

camera

We know that today's digital cameras add a lot of information on the screen. Many times, this information is a great help, but sometimes the information gets in the way. So we recommend that you leave only the information that is absolutely necessary.

  1. Pay attention to depth of field

depth of field

In compositions, we must pay attention to all elements, whether they are in focus and in the foreground. Or they are out of focus and further away. The latter are also part of the composition, and we must pay attention to all the planes to find the balance in the composition.

  1. Don't zoom in

objective

This tip is one of our favourites - don't zoom for a while. Use only fixed focal length lenses. It will be a challenge that will force you to move around and be an active part of the compositions. By forcing you to move you will find new elements to include in the compositions, offering much more possibilities than a static position.

  1. The number of shots

shooting

This is another trick that gets people talking. The advantages of digital cameras are many, they allow us to shoot in bursts. And we always think that we have the possibility of taking as many photos as we want. This often means that we don't take care of every single composition in detail, thinking that “it doesn't cost us money” to take as many pictures as we need. Thinking that with 100 or 200 shots in the end we will achieve the objective we have set ourselves.

Well, to improve our creativity and our photographic eye, we suggest that you limit the number of photos. That you think about and take care of every single shot. Thinking about photography, learning to look are just a few of the advantages that you will achieve by limiting the number of shots.

With this we believe we have enough to start improving our photographic compositions. Of course, we encourage you to tell us what are your tricks to improve the composition, and that can be useful for everyone.
