Canon Error 01.

Hello Photographer! If you are a Canon user, it is possible that at some point (or maybe it is happening to you now) this fault code will appear on your camera (Canon Error 01). Go to DST Photography we will explain why this happens to you and what to do if this code appears «error 01«.

The error 01 in Canon

The error 01 in Canon «usually» indicates a connection failure between the camera and the lens due to a fault in the contacts. And I say «usually» because unfortunately in 90% of the cases it is due to a fault in the lens diaphragm and not because of dirt on the contacts. So, before you start polishing the contacts of the lens and the camera, I recommend you to follow a few brief steps to find out if it is a lens diaphragm failure.

The most frequent cause when the «error 01»is due to a cut in the flexible diaphragm circuit. This is a circuit that flexes when zooming and with use causes a cut in one of its communication tracks.

To confirm if the circuit is really cut, set your camera to AV (Aperture Priority) and select a closed aperture, for example F16. Then shoot several pictures at different zoom positions. If the camera indicates «error 01«Turn the camera off and on, set the aperture as wide open as possible (in the case of a 24-105 F4 L IS USM, it would be F4) and shoot again several pictures at different focal lengths. If the error does not appear now, it is confirmed that your lens has a faulty diaphragm. Shooting at full aperture does not make use of the aperture and so no error is made, this can be useful because if it breaks down during a trip or a job, you can still use the lens at its maximum aperture. However, on some occasions, the aperture may remain permanently closed when the fault occurs, obscuring the image in the viewfinder and disabling autofocus, if this happens, it is not possible to continue using the lens until it is repaired.
